The
Wood
All
our products are constructed from hand-graded, kiln-dried Tamarack
(Larix
laricina). The Tamarack tree is native to Eastern Canada and
the Northern United States. Also known as Eastern Larch, American
Larch, or by its Native name, Hackmatack, Tamarack has the distinction
of being the only deciduous conifer in North America. Tamarack grows
abundantly in our area and is supplied to us primarily by private
wood lot owners from the surrounding community.
The wood of the Tamarack is ideal for outdoor furniture products.
It has proven to be stronger and less brittle than cedar, it has
a better defined grain than teak, and it is more resistant to
decay than pine. These attributes are further enhanced through
our kiln drying process. Kiln drying lowers a wood's moisture
content, giving extra protection against rotting, warping, and
insects.
Tamarack has traditionally been used for ship building in our
area. Today, Tamarack is commonly used for railroad ties, posts,
poles, and mine timbers. Clearly, Tamarack is a preferred wood
for use in North America's most grueling environmental conditions.
Hardware
We
use only the finest fasteners provided by GRK
Canada Ltd. in the construction of our furniture. Two types
of fasteners are used by Tamarack Wood Products; yellow zinc plated
wood screws and yellow zinc plated RSS lag screws. GRK's patented
"Climatek" coating is applied to each lag screw and "is
the only such plating which offers rust protection of up to 25 years
in exterior climates."
Our Finishes
At Tamarack Wood Products, we take our responsibility to the environment
seriously. That's why all our finished products are treated with
Sansin Enviro Stain.
Enviro Stain is an all-natural product designed to enhance wood's
natural resistance to the elements. It is environmentally friendly
and safe for outdoor use on all wood products.
Using water as a delivery agent, Enviro Stain penetrates deep
into wood products to provide a protective finish that will not
peel or blister. This remarkable product provides added protection
against moisture and ultra violet rays which cause wood to weather.
